The Phase II of Rapid Metro — a 7-km line between the Sikandarpur Metro station and the Sector 55-56 Metro station — is finally operational.

Mr Manohar Lal Khattar Chief Minister of Haryana inaugurated the second phase on May 2, 2017.

The trial for this phase began last month. It will cater to residents of Golf Course Road, DLF Ph I and sectors 42, 43, 53, 54, 55 and 56.

It has five Metro stations — DLF Ph I, Sector 42-43, Sector 53-54, Sector 54 Chowk and Sector 55-56 Gurgaon.

After his inaugural speech, the CM took a ride on the line with a group of slum children from Gurgaon. The press and officials of the Haryana government and locals were also present.

The CM said, “We have proposed to develop Gurgaon railway station as a terminal for trains from the western part of the country. We are following the development works underway on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. Efforts are on to decongest traffic and make commuting smooth.”

The line is open for commuters between 6 am and 12.36 am, following the DMRC timeline.

Rajiv Banga, MD and CEO of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) Rail Limited, said, “We are also launching a Rapid Metro app for the convenience of commuters.”

However, the CM remained tight-lipped about Phase III of the Rapid Metro, which is expected to connect Sohna with the Sector 55-56 Metro station.

Phase I and Phase II have a total length of 11.7 km and serve 11 stations.

The first phase of the system was opened in November 2013.
